Enhancing tools to manage phosphorus in agricultural fields in the Northcentral region to reduce the risk loss to surface waters: a project supporting the Fertilizer Recommendation Support Tool (FRST)

Objectives:

  1. Update soil test correlation from new P fertility trials in Northcentral states for corn and soybean production.

Funded by OCP-North America

  1. Compare commonly used soil test methods in the Northcentral region for how they predict P response in corn or soybean.
  2. Establish a P removal database for corn and soybean for the Northcentral region.
  3. Establish whether balancing the amount of P applied with the amount of P removed is critical to maintain soil test values.
  4. Collaborate with existing online platforms that aim to provide up to date information to decision makers and develop outreach material through existing state extension programs.
  5. Transfer data to the FRST initiative to develop and maintain a searchable tool that provides soil test correlation and calibration graphs with statistical confidence intervals for the areas of interest.
