The Manure Expo 2025 took place on July 30–31 at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Wauseon, Ohio. This event brought together farmers, agricultural professionals, and companies from various fields to explore the latest advancements in manure management. Attendees experienced live demonstration focused on solid and liquid manure, safety practices, educational sessions, and tradeshow.
The Soil Fertility and Soil Health Lab team - Dr. Manbir Rakkar, Ben Robinson, Jaspreet Singh, and Kaue Barbosa - participated in the event . The team engaged with other researchers and companies, exchanging knowledge, ideas, and experiences to address current challenges and explore potential solutions in the field of manure sources and application.
Jaspreet Singh, a master’s student, presented a research poster on the effect of manure sources on soil phosphorus dynamics, he was awarded 3rd place in Poster Competition. His study compared dairy and swine manure, examining how each affects phosphorus availability in soil. His findings showed that judicious use of dairy manure didn’t increase the risk of phosphorus loss but the legacy effect of swine manure increased phosphorus saturation level of soil, increasing the risk for phosphorus loss to water bodies.
The event also provided valuable learning opportunities on the relationship between soil health and manure management. Sessions covered best practices for combining manure application with cover crops, how manure supports soil nitrogen supply, and the different methods of applying manure in the field.
