Dr. Manbir Rakkar and Greg LaBarge published a factsheet entitled “Trends of Corn Yield, Optimal Nitrogen Rate, and Nitrogen Use Efficiency: 1976–2021” on Ohioline.
The factsheet is based on a study that included 431 nitrogen (N) trials conducted between 1976 and 2021 in Ohio. Results of the study showed a 52% increase in grain yield with no significant changes in the N rate required to maximize yield.
The use of improved corn hybrids was listed as one of the factors contributing to the results obtained. The new corn hybrids have improved nitrogen-use efficiency.
