On Wednesday, April 9th, high school students visited the Ohio State Wooster Campus for an immersive citizen science day focused on Soil Health hosted by Agroecosystem Management Program. The event aimed to engage the next generation in the importance of sustainable food production and agricultural research.
During the event, Soil Fertility and Soil Health members led hands-on demonstrations reflecting lab and field practices . Students explored key topics such as soil pH, sampling techniques, and aggregate stability, gaining a clearer understanding of how soil health supports resilient and productive farming systems.
By introducing students to ongoing research and practical applications of soil science, the event encouraged them to think critically about the role of agriculture in creating a more sustainable future. The experience also offered insight into potential career paths in agricultural research and environmental care.
