Calculating Yield

We use yield as our main measurement for responsiveness of crops to fertilizer treatments. Calculating yield can be complicated so we're providing a breakdown of how we use cooperator data and our measured data to determine final yield results. You will also find standard moisture and bushel weights for some common crops.

Equation Used:

Yield (bu/ac) = harvested dry matter (lbs) / crop standard wt (lbs/bu) / plot area (ac)

Calculations for final equation:                                      

harvested dry matter = [(100 - measured % moisture) * 0.01] * total harvest weight 

crop standard wt = [(100 - standard % moisture) * 0.01] * standard bushel weight

plot area = (plot width * plot length) / 43560 ft/ac
